LANGLEY is Lionheart’s educational service dog. She joined Lionheart’s staff in the fall of 2013 and instantly became our staff member of the year. LANGLEY received her extensive training through the paws4people™ foundation based in Wilmington, NC. She has been trained to work with our students as a tool in a variety of capacities. LANGLEY calms and soothes students who have challenges regulating their sensory systems, delivers messages, carries items for students, assists with sensory and motor based activities during OT sessions, and even motivates students who may be reticent during reading activities. LANGLEY’s biggest task is at the center of Lionheart’s relationship-based model – she is simply another amazing relationship for our students to enjoy. She also assists in helping our students build relationships when they venture off-campus and participate in community outreach at the local YMCA or retirement home. Our students connect to new people and bring joy to the community with LANGLEY as their tool.
